Postoperative treatment (cataract removal)

Female, 76 yrs

Diagnosis

This lady underwent an operation to remove a cataract. She was also using aspirin for a diagnosed angina condition.

Treatment

The SCENAR treatment that she was given was within 2 hours of the operation.
Her recovery was very good, faster than the surgeon had expected. On the first day she had great difficulties in opening the eye. When she had tried to do so for a moment the sensation she had felt was very uncomfortable and very sore.
By the second day the discomfort was much less and she had greater confidence when attempting to use the eye. After that session she was able to easily open the eye and in fact her vision in that eye was reasonably good. She did visit the eye surgeon twice more over the following 2 weeks. He was pleased with her recovery.

Results

After 4 weeks she was called back to her optician for an eye test. This is standard procedure in these cases, the 4 week break allows for everything to settle. From this test it was deduced that as expected her prescription lenses would require changing. This was done and her spectacles were returned to her within 10 days, having been changed. She tried to use them but found this impossible. On returning again to her optician she was tested again. To her delight and to the amazement of the optician, it was determined that she no longer needed lenses for her distance vision, now only for reading!
